Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Having a proper maintenance program for forklifts would help to increase the lifespan of the machine and is also a critical factor to the safe use of the equipment. Completing forklift check ups regularly and doing preventive maintenance regularly will help to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the machinery.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an invaluable tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists would help to document any and all possible issues. They are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the OSHA. The daily checklists can also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators must complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major issues are found, the forklift can not be used until the issue has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
Every year roughly 100 people are injured in forklift accidents in the USA. Statistics show that roughly 20,000 individuals will be injured seriously as a result of a forklift accident. This number translates to represent 54 people a day, 7 days a week, for the entire year. A lot of these mishaps could be easily prevented if the forklift had been properly maintained and serviced. In several circumstances, it may seem like a cost savings to skip or delay regular maintenance, although, these savings will pale in comparison to the cost of a single mishap.
Items to be Serviced
In the owner's instruction manual of each machinery, the manufacturer would include a maintenance schedule. These schedules will vary greatly, depending on the manufacturer and the kind of equipment. Each schedule would consist of a variety of basic things. For example, in a combustion engine, the engine oil and the oil filter must be periodically replaced. Hydraulic levels should be checked too. Be sure to inspect hoses for any signs of cracking. Other items involve the electrical systems, the brakes and the transmission of the forklift.
